EgyptAir voice recorder suggests there was fire on board before crash

Investigators now think a blaze may have taken hold on Egyptair flight 804 in the final moments before it crashed in May killing all 66 people on board.

Data from the cockpit voice recorder suggests the pilots of the doomed Airbus A320 were battling to put out flames moments before it crashed.

This latest information corroborates evidence from the flight data recorder registering fire in the plane’s lavatory area and avionics bay.

Investigators also say wreckage recovered from the jet’s front section shows signs of scorching and smoke damage.

Experts will carry out further analysis on the voices in the recordings.

They have not ruled out any theories about what may have caused the crash.
